You could not leave the island without walking around the lighthouse area at the end of the Old Port, where the chapel of Panagia Armata is located. This historic chapel was built as a tribute to the Virgin Mary who contributed to the victory of the people of Spetses against the Turkish siege during the Greek Revolution.
It is worth visiting the island and admiring the traditional custom of the representation of the historic naval battle of Spetses against the Turks off the island, which we call Armata in honor of the Virgin Mary.
A series of cultural events take place every year on the first week of September, having as a highlighting of this week the representation of the Battle of 1822. It is worth living this experience up close and we guarantee that you will not regret it.
